The first International Anammox Symposium (IANAS 2011) will be held in Kumamoto on May 19-20, 2011.

A novel metabolic pathway of anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) was discovered more than 15 years ago. Owing to the advantages for reduction of oxygen supply for nitrification as the pretreatment of anammox and H-donor supplementation in autotrophic anammox process, development of a innovative, cost-effective nitrogen removal process using partial nitritation and anammox process is now the hot matter in the advanced wastewater treatment field and in basic biochemical researches. Through the intensive research works, nitrogen removal process using anammox process is now in the stage of practical application for reducing nitrogen concentration of high ammonium containing wastewaters such as digester liquor, bio-gas plant effluent landfill leachate, industrial wastewaters such as food processing etc.
The objective of the IANAS 2011 is to share the idea and experiences among experts from around the world and well as South East Asian countries. The participants will share the information and knowledge of the latest progress in the nitrogen removal process using anammox reaction and in the biochemical researches. Therefore, we cordially invite you to join and support this International Anammox Symposium to be held in Kumamoto, Japan in 2011.
