L’investigador del GIRO Albert Magrí Aloy assistirà al First International Anammox Symposium organitzat a la ciutat japonesa de Kumamoto. El Dr. Magrí forma part del comitè del congrés i serà ponent amb la conferencia titulada “Partial nitritation of swine wastewater in view of its coupling with the anammox process”. Així mateix, també participa com a coautor d’una segona comunicació oral “Experiences with anammox in the USA: isolation, preservation and treatment performance of Brocadia caroliniensis”. Els treballs esmentats són fruit de l’estada científica que l’investigador va realitzar durant 2010 al Coastal Plains, Soil, Water, and Plant Research Center del Departament d’Agricultura dels Estats Units (ARS-USDA, Florence, SC).
PRESENTATION:
The metabolic pathway of anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) was discovered more than 15 years ago. Owing to the advantages for the reduction of oxygen supply during nitrification, the high loading rates applicable, the lack of organic requirements for denitrification, and the low sludge production, it is a hot issue in advanced wastewater treatment field. Through the intensive research works, cost-effective nitrogen removal using anammox process is now in the stage of practical application for reducing nitrogen concentration of ammonium-rich wastewaters such as biogas plant effluents, industrial wastewaters, etc.
OBJECTIVES:
The objective of the IANAS 2011 is to share information and knowledge, among experts from South East Asian countries and around the world, about the latest progress in nitrogen removal using anammox process.
THEMES:
- Partial nitritation
- Anammox
- Single stage nitrogen removal using anammox reaction
- Anammox, biochemistry and genomics microbial ecology
